While living in this worldly life, we may not fully realize just how precious righteous deeds are.
The meaning of a Hadith in Sahih Muslim is that the Day of Judgment will not come as long as there remains someone on earth who says, “Allah, Allah.”
When someone sincerely says, “Allah, Allah,” it means that faith resides in their heart. Such a person remembers Allah, calls upon Him, fears Him, loves Him, and places their trust in Him. They know that Allah will reward their deeds and that everything happens by His command.
Allah is the One who provides sustenance to His servants. Allah is the One who keeps them healthy. When a servant commits a sin and sincerely repents, Allah forgives them. All the needs of His servants are fulfilled by Allah’s command. The power of Allah, the Most Glorious, is infinite.
No matter how many times we utter the name of such a Supreme Being, our hearts can never have enough of it! Throughout their lives, until their final breath, believers call upon their Lord by saying, “Allah, Allah.” They express all their needs to Him and continually seek His forgiveness. In this way, the bond between a servant and Allah grows stronger. This is the greatest fruit of saying, “Allah, Allah”!
People complain that they have too little money, too little happiness, and so many other problems. This is the reality of worldly life. Of course, when we are less attached to this world, these shortcomings will occupy less of our attention. Instead, we will become more concerned about how few righteous deeds we are performing.
We should seek out wise and spiritually conscious people who frequently remember Allah and repeat His name, saying, “Allah, Allah.” We should spend more time in their company. In this way, both our tongues and our hearts will become accustomed to remembering Allah, InshaAllah!
Then our hearts will no longer be as attached to worldly things as they are now. This is the fundamental and simple path to finding peace and tranquility in this worldly life.
The distress and dissatisfaction of worldly life do not diminish simply by keeping ourselves busy with worldly pursuits. At least, they never truly disappear for a believer! Devoting ourselves to accumulating provisions for the Hereafter helps a believer move forward. We must keep progressing through the remembrance of Allah, saying, “Allah, Allah”!
Whatever we do, we should keep Allah in our thoughts. Sometimes through our tongues, and sometimes through our hearts and minds, remembering Allah means saying and repeating, “Allah, Allah.” However, even if only for a little while, we should set everything else aside and devote ourselves entirely to verbally repeating the name of Allah. The more we engage in this verbal remembrance (zikr), the deeper its impression will become in our hearts! Its effects will inevitably be reflected throughout our entire being and throughout our lives.
Everyone attends to the necessities of worldly life. Everyone knows that working hard in this world brings benefits, so there is little need to remind people of that! But fewer and fewer people remind us that we must continue remembering Allah until our final breath. Therefore, each of us should reflect on our own condition and begin remembering Allah more frequently. We should also continue reminding those under our care of the importance of doing the same. After all, this life is our opportunity to prepare for the Hereafter!
A sincere believer remembers Allah in every action, thought, and moment of reflection. Through the blessings of faith, they understand that this world is a place for performing righteous deeds. We should not indulge in eating, dressing, and worldly luxuries as though they were the ultimate purpose of our existence! We must leave this world sooner or later. It is through abundant remembrance of Allah that we can acquire the true provisions for the Hereafter—the provisions that we can carry into the grave and through which we may attain true peace, tranquility, and everlasting joy!
According to the meaning of the Hadith mentioned above, the Day of Judgment cannot occur while someone who remembers Allah and says, “Allah, Allah,” still remains on earth!
If we understand the remembrance of Allah (zikr) in a broader sense, in light of the discussions of zikr in the Quran and Hadith, then saying “Allah, Allah” means more than merely repeating His name verbally (although verbal remembrance is undoubtedly a tremendous act of worship). It also means remembering Allah in every aspect of our lives.
This is where we should direct our attention. Following the path of Allah throughout our lives is what it means to remember Him constantly. True remembrance of Allah is possible only when we live in obedience to Him.
We proclaim “Allahu Akbar” in the call to prayer and in Salah. We remember Allah in our daily activities, whether sitting or standing, and recite the supplications taught in the Hadith. In our social interactions, manners, conduct within and outside the family, and dealings with others, we should follow the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Being mindful of Allah at all times and in all places—avoiding what is forbidden, staying away from sins, refraining from harming others, avoiding jealousy and backbiting, and sincerely repenting whenever we commit a sin—all of these are ways of remembering Allah and living by the remembrance of “Allah, Allah”!
A Muslim who repeatedly remembers Allah with their tongue should naturally reflect that remembrance through their actions. They should live and die as an obedient servant of Allah!
In tongue I utter Allah’s Name
In task I am His servant,
Love and Fear in heart always
Solely this is—His grant..
