When Ramadan arrives, a believer reflects deeply — especially on the Quran and on his or her own life. The state of the righteous servants of Allah is such that the Quran occupies their days and nights; MashaAllah.
Since the Quran was revealed in Ramadan, its honor is especially manifested in this month. In the times close to Ramadan, even ordinary believers remember the Quran more than usual. This too is a mercy from Allah the Exalted. Alhamdulillah.
Along with fasting, the activity that keeps a believer most occupied in the month of Ramadan is the recitation of the Quran.
The Quran is the most precious possession of a believer. Without the Quran, a believer cannot live even for a moment. And just as it is impossible to live even a moment without iman (faith), the very foundation of iman is the Quran, no doubt.
As for those who keep the Quran at a distance, or who distance themselves from the Quran, against them the Prophet of Mercy ﷺ himself will lodge a complaint before Allah, which has been informed us in the very Quran:
وَقَالَ الرَّسُوْلُ يٰرَبِّ اِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوْا ھٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَ مَهْجُوْرًا
The Messenger ﷺ will say: “O my Lord! Indeed, my people have taken this Quran as something abandoned.” Sura al-Furqan 25:30
According to the scholars, this verse includes all levels of neglect of the Quran. If, on the Day of Judgment, the Messenger ﷺ were to make such a complaint against someone — may Allah protect us — what would be that person’s fate?
Look today: teachers of Quran, qari, hafiz, printed copies of the Quran, and institutions for learning the Quran (maktabs and madrasahs) — all are so readily available. Who can still say, “How will I learn the Quran? Where is the opportunity?” !!
Opportunities exist in almost every corner of the world. Reciting the Quran correctly is one of its most basic and primary rights. So let us move forward in reciting the Quran, in learning and teaching it properly, and in encouraging everyone connected to us in this regard—indeed, let us compete with one another in it.
Reciting the Quran correctly is its foremost right; no doubt this is all. However, let’s make the start today to recite Allah’s Words correctly; this will pave us to the light of complete guidance soon inshaAllah.
