Allah سبحانه و تعالى’s enforcement of duties and responsibilities toward mankind encompass and consider infinite mercy! If a woman’s nature is ignored and she is imposed things which have been designated to a man, according to Islam (Allah سبحانه و تعالى’s command), it would be simply titled as oppression against women. However, this practice has now become rife even in our (Muslim) society under the hood of civilization and development. Many people (who are often recognized as intellectuals, thinkers, theorists, educationists, social-workers etc.) conclude that being under the veil, staying at home, cooking in the kitchen and rearing up children are very low-graded and non-prestigious duties for a woman. According to these individuals, they have a much advanced and developed thought (what they believe) to nurture the women. According to their conclusions, women should be exposed, women should be employed, and women should be no less engaged than men in outside activities. They add, if women are confined in the homes, their potentiality would be lost.

Therefore, today our admired women – the mothers (or future mothers) are in the showbiz, they are in the professions along with the men, they are storming into the bazaars and roads competing against the turbulent changes and big challenges in every field. Even if they do not have the physical ability and courage, they are bound to take up risks equal to men and race against all cumbersome acts. What a dreadful scene to see! That is not all, the so-called developed culture has led the women toward all sort of shamelessness and openness depriving them from their chastity and natural shyness. Think a bit rationally, when the Creator Himself has relieved them from taking up many of these burdens, who have dared to impose all upon them?!

The everyday newspaper tells us so many sad family-stories and daily there are several shocking incidents taking place in our society! It is only because we, the Muslims, have adamantly disobeyed the Creator’s law. The highly dignified women are now toys of our ugly and greedy society, which took every disadvantage of our disobedience to Allah سبحانه و تعالى’s law. In the name of advancement, development and freedom, we are misutilizing our women fully. Under the hood of education, equal-employment opportunity, equal rights, we have exposed our women toward dishonor, disrespect and the vulgar media!

Shocking but true is, many women in our society take these positively. It is only because they have never seen the light of Islam. They have never been shown even a glimpse of their dignity or appropriate honor they deserve. They have been oppressed in their original position to such an extent that now they have taken shelter in the hands of their enemies – the culture, the society and way of life which provide them money and recognition at the cost of their invaluable life. However, soon the women also realize that these places are only giving them some sort of temporary peace. But often it is too late then. Very few can make a comeback from the adverse situations. Often moral degradation, societal obligations, evil companies strongly oppose them to return. Indeed, carefree life and continuous wrongful acts leads up to shameless sinning and results in disgraceful outcome in the world and much more to come in the afterlife. We all seek the refuge to Allah سبحانه و تعالى!

What has happened when we forced our women at work? Our children have lost the mother’s care and cradle. What has happened when we made (or forced!?) them come out of the veil? They have become the toys of the media, models of the advertisement and showpieces of the showbiz. What has happened when we directed them toward education in an environment where strange men could freely mix with them? They have lost their shamelessness and all the evil acts started burning in the society.

Islam does not disallow education and development of woman. Never does Islam disallow woman working if required. But conditions and situations which destroy a woman’s chastity, dignity and holy life and above all the invaluable asset of Iman, Islam does not tolerate those under any circumstances. The husbands, brothers and sons will have to face a very grave situation on the Day of Judgement, if the wives, sisters, and mothers start complaining Allah سبحانه و تعالى against them, because the husbands, brothers and sons were supposed to protect their women’s rights according to the priority of Islam, not according to the priority of personal understanding and the so-called modern education and societal demands.

We strongly appeal to the Ummah, pay at least the slightest heed to what Beloved Rasulullah ﷺ said in his last sermon (meaning): O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.
