In Islamic terms, the tenth day of Muharram, the first month of the Hijri year, is referred to as Ashura. Significance of Ashura and the Prophet \ufdfa\u2019s practice on this day has been clearly stated in the Hadith.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">Ibn Abbas said: \u201cThe Prophet \ufdfa came to Madinah and saw Jews fasting on Ashura. He said, \u2018What is this?\u2019 They said, \u2018This is a righteous day, it is the day when Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Musa fasted on this day.\u2019 He said, \u2018We have more right to Musa than you,\u2019 so he fasted on that day and commanded (the Muslims) to fast on that day.\u201d <sub><sup>Bukhari<\/sup><\/sub><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">Although nafl, according to other Hadith, after the fast of Ramadan, the fast of Ashura is the most prestigious one in the sight of Allah Almighty. Ummul Mu\u2019mineen Saiyeda Ayesha \u0631\u0636\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0646\u0647\u0627 said (meaning): I did not see the Messenger \ufdfa of Allah prefer the fast of the day of Ashura to the fast of any other day (except Ramadan\u2019s fast). <sub><sup>Bukhari<\/sup><\/sub><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">There is a narration in the Ibn Majah that the Messenger \ufdfa of Allah said (meaning), By fasting on the day of Ashura, I hope for forgiveness from Allah for the sins of the past year. <sub><sup>Ibn Majah<\/sup><\/sub><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said (meaning), If I live next year, I will definitely fast on the ninth day. <sub><sup>Muslim<\/sup><\/sub><br \/>So that this worship does not resemble that of the Jews, a total of two days of fasting should be observed on the day before or after the 10th of Muharram.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-family: quadraat-bold; font-size: 18pt;\">Therefore, the teachings of 10th Muharram or Ashura are:<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Gratefulness, i.e., being thankful to Allah Almighty for His bounties. And a great form to express gratitude is to fast. Just as our Prophet \ufdfa has done fasting on the 10th Muharram.\r\n\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Fasting on the 10th of Muharram as a sign of following the beloved Prophet \ufdfa\r\n\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Even while acting upon something good, Muslims should be careful and cautious that their actions may not become an imitation of the unbelievers. For this reason, we should add up another day to fast with the 10th of Muharram so that our fast does not resemble the Jews, who also fast on this day.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<div class=\"pld-like-dislike-wrap pld-template-2\">\r\n    <div class=\"pld-like-wrap  pld-common-wrap\">\r\n    <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\" class=\"pld-like-trigger pld-like-dislike-trigger  \" title=\"I Like this Article\" data-post-id=\"4061\" data-trigger-type=\"like\" data-restriction=\"cookie\" data-already-liked=\"0\">\r\n                        <i class=\"fas fa-heart\"><\/i>\r\n                <\/a>\r\n    <span class=\"pld-like-count-wrap pld-count-wrap\">    <\/span>\r\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The word Ashura means tenth.
