Hazrat Abdullah ibne Mas’ood (RA) narrates, (Meaning) Once Rasulullahﷺ recited the verse (meaning) …whose heart Allah has broadened up for Islam…*. Then he ﷺ explained that when the light of Iman enters into the heart, the heart broadens. The audience inquired whether there were any sign of this positive state(?) Rasulullah ﷺ informed (meaning) – yes, the sign is that such a servant’s attention moves away from the deceptive place of this world to the eternal afterlife and he gets ready before death approaches (i.e. the person engages in Tawba-Istegfar, gives up sins and increases Ibadat – worshiping Allah Taala) [Maa’riful Hadith]

Inclination towards the afterlife is truly a very big bounty and blessing for man. It is indeed the aim, objective and hardship of saint-like Muslim (Muttaqi) of all times. They are the people with piety; even when their limbs engage in worldly affairs, their hearts are connected to Allah Taala. Violating any commandment of Allah Taala (committing a sin) becomes very difficult for them. Speedily does they move forward toward the glad-tidings – Allah Taala and His Beloved Messenger ﷺ informed.
Every Muslim should crave and make utmost efforts to attain the status stated in the Hadith above. And of course, besides making efforts, Dua – supplications should be made in abundance with sincerity and humbleness. Such a Dua in the Hadith in this regard is: يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ.  Oh Turner of Hearts! Keep my heart firm on Your Deen (Aameen!)

*(Meaning) So I ask about a person whose heart Allah has opened up for Islam, and consequently he proceeds in a light from his Lord. (Can he be equal to the one whose heart is hardened?) So, woe to those whose hearts are too hard to remember Allah. Those are wandering in open error. (Sura Zumar – 22)
